Casey Anthony update: Casey to have court hearing on Monday for check fraud and murder (photos, videos)

Casey Anthony will appear before an Orlando, Florida judge on Monday, January 25, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. for both check fraud and murder charges. Casey was scheduled to appear in court for trial on Monday but instead a hearing will be held. Also during the hearing, two motions related to the murder case will be heard. Many have speculated that Casey Anthony will plead guilty to check fraud charges tomorrow to avoid the trial.

The prosecution has released numerous discovery against Casey in both the murder and check fraud case including surveillance photos that show Casey Anthony on a shopping spree. She is accused of stealing approximately $700.00 from her friend’s checking account.

Casey Anthony’s defense attorneys filed a motion to have some of the check fraud charges based upon a double jeopardy clause, stating that she was being charged multiple times for the same charges. You may read that motion to dismiss here: Motion to dismiss

Though it has been suspected that Casey will plead guilty, it is also believed that her defense attorneys will use the hearing to bring speculation against Roy Kronk, as they feel that he should be considered a suspect in the case. Roy Kronk is the meter reader who found the skeletal remains of Caylee Anthony on December 13, 2008.

If Casey Anthony pleads guilty to check fraud, she will be a convicted felon before the murder trial begins. At this point, it is unclear when the trial will start as Casey’s defense attorneys have filed for a change of venue, though it is expected to begin in June 2010.

Casey Anthony’s defense attorneys have not spoken to media regarding Monday’s hearings and haven’t stated whether a plea deal is in the works regarding the check fraud charges.
