 Federal government calls snow day due to massive snow storm
A massive snow storm transformed the mid Atlantic and East coast into a winter wonderland, shutting down federal offices today. The weekend blizzard dumped more than two feet of snow causing Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania to declare a state of emergency.
The snow storm also caused travel and flights to cease and knocked power out to thousands of home, many of whom are still without power. Though some airlines are back in operation, many flights have been cancelled. The federal government also announced that they will be closed today.
The United States Office of Personnel Management (OPM.gov) lists closings and is a one-stop resource for those looking for the latest news regarding openings or closings by the federal government. The website has been overloaded this weekend, due to the massive storm. According to the OPM website, on Monday, February 8, 2010, federal agencies in Washington, D.C., are closed, emergency workers and employees are expected to work and those who telework may be required to work today as well.
