 Federal government closed Thursday, February 11, 2010; update to OPM.gov website
The Federal government will be closed on Thursday, February 11, 2010 due to a massive snow storm that is leaving the east coast and mid-Atlantic in a whiteout and facing blizzard conditions. Though non-emergency employees will be granted an excused absence during the snow day, emergency employees are expected to work. Some telework employees may be required to work. Those needing information regarding the U.S. Office of Personnel Management policy can download a pdf file here. Employees should follow their individual contracts to determine whether they are required to work or not.
Due to heavy traffic that the OPM.gov website has received, the office has set up a temporary website for e-QIP to ensure the site won’t crash and become inaccessible during traffic spikes. The e-QIP sit splits the amount of traffic the web server receives. You can access the temporary website here: e-QIP.
The OPM.gov website is for one day only and you will need to check with the site to determine if the federal government will be closed on Friday, February 12, 2010 as well. Thursday’s closure marks the fourth day in a row that the government has been shut down, something that has rarely happened. Should Friday be a snow day it would mark an entire week that the federal government was shut down due to weather; something that has never happened before.
