The Federal government will be open Friday, February 12, 2010 under a delayed arrival, unscheduled leave.

Under a delayed arrival, employees have up to 2 hours later than their scheduled work time to arrive at work. If workers arrive later than 2 hours, they can face leave without pay or be required to pay an annual leave charge. Those who cannot make it to work may request an unscheduled leave for the entire workday. Both emergency and telework employees are required to work the full day.

Workers who need further information regarding the meaning of the operating status can download the Policy manual here.

The OPM encourages workers to take additional steps to ensure that they arrive at work within the two hour allotted time.

The Federal government has been closed for four days this week, prompting OPM Director John Berry to release a statement. He stated that there are two components to determining whether federal governments will be closed, the first is safety of the public and employees, and the second is ensuring that the government will continue to operate in a highly functioning manner. John Berry said that many federal workers are equipped with Internet technologies that enable them to continue working despite causes that prevent them from commuting to work.
