There were multiple crashes on the course prior to Nodar Kumaritashvili fatal crash today. The track was shut down as Olympic authorities determine the cause of the crash and overall safety of the track. The luge sport has often been considered the most dangerous in the Olympics. Olympic authorities have not yet determined whether or not the luge will take place during this year’s winter Olympics. Should the event continue, it is more than likely that officials will take extra steps and precautions to make the track safe.
