Many coastal areas were devastated by a tsunami that resulted from the earthquake. Those villages have been virtually destroyed as waves high as 15’ swept over the area. Looting continues to rise and yesterday, Chilean president Michelle Bachelet addressed the seriousness of the problem.

“We have seen images that are, frankly, intolerable. We want to make it clear that it won’t be accepted. The government will apply the full force of the law.”

More than 10,000 soldiers are working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of Chileans and catch looters. As looters run rampant, aid has been hindered and is slowly reaching those who need it.
