Adam Lambert controversy, GLAAD releases statement
GLAAD, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, has issued a statement in response to the Adam Lambert controversy, and the cancellation of his Good Morning America appearance on Wednesday, November 25, 2009.
Adam Lambert was scheduled to perform on the morning show that airs on ABC, but was canceled after his sexually charged performance at the AMA music awards.
Adam Lambert stated after the controversy that he believed he was being victimized by a double standard. When Madonna, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera shared a same sex kiss on television, they were not censored, nor edited. Adam Lambert was. When the show aired in Western Time, the sexual scene of simulating oral sex had been edited. Click here to watch the video:
GLAAD released the following statement regarding the Good Morning America Adam Lambert cancellation.
“Some music performances, regardless of the sexual orientation of the performer, are tailored for a primetime audience but not for a morning show audience,” said Jarrett Barrios, President of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD). “It is disappointing that Good Morning America did not give Adam Lambert the opportunity to tailor his performance to their audience, as he did on their show in August 2009. We applaud the CBS Early Show for taking this opportunity to work with Lambert on a performance that is entertaining for an early morning television audience.”
Adam Lambert performed on the CBS Early Show and Late Night with David Letterman instead.

He performed ‘For Your Entertainment’, a single from his debut album ‘For Your Entertainment.’ The song is about sexuality, flirting, and downright lust. Adam Lambert interpreted those lyrics in his performance in what became quite possibly one of the greatest controversial musical moments of all time.
Though there have been a great deal of controversy from artists ranging from Jim Morrison and David Bowie to Madonna and Britney Spears, in the Adam Lambert AMA performance video (you tube) you’ll see that the current controversy is more than a homosexual or ‘gay’ kiss but also includes simulated oral sex.

Adam Lambert caused great controversy at the AMA awards Sunday night. He was the final performer and some of his routine included simulating oral sex when he grabbed a male dancer’s head and shoved it in his crotch, grabbed a woman by the crotch, and ended the sexually charged routine with a full mouth to mouth kiss with a male dancer. You can view some of the performance in the video below.
Was the controversy only because of his sexuality or was the performance simply too risque for television.
Did Adam Lambert go too far with his performance and was this a publicity stunt for sales? His debut album, For Your Entertainment was released yesterday. The song is ‘Entertain You’ but many who found the performance offensive state that they were less than entertained. The kiss between Adam Lambert and the male dancer has since been dubbed ‘The kiss heard around the world’, and there couldn’t be more truth to that statement.
From Twitter and YouTube to Facebook, the video and kiss have traveled worldwide adding fury to the debate.
Elisabeth Hasselbeck from The View stated, “We will not remember him as a performer or someone with a voice if he continues to do things like this. So, smarten up and think.”
Adam Lambert says that there is a double standard. He stated,
“I feel like women performers have been pushing the envelope sexually for the past 20 years. And all of a sudden, a male does it and everybody goes, “Oh, we can`t show that on TV.” And to me that`s a form of discrimination and it`s a double standard.” Adam Lambert
What do you think? Is there a double standard or did Adam Lambert go too far.
