He was arrested and sentenced to death twice; in both of those sentences Rodney Alcala’s convictions were overturned. This time, however, it appears that three times is a charm and that Rodney Alcala may in fact be sentenced to death. Whether or not Rodney Alcala will actually be executed in the state of California is another question. The California death penalty is a highly controversial debate and one that involves justice and finances.

The death penalty sentence was handed on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 for the murder of 12-year-old Robin Samsoe in 1979 and four women: Charlotte Lamb, Georgia Wixted, Jill Barcomb, and Jill Paranteau. The 66 year old serial killer is also the subject of several investigations and police have asked for help identifying women who appear in numerous photos found in a storage locker belonging to Alcala.
Rodney Alcala served as his own attorney and in closing arguments stated that he should be spared the death penalty. His argument was that the jury would become ‘killers themselves’ should they give him the death penalty.
Rodney Alcala showed no emotional response during victim’s impact statements where family members of the slain were able to verbally express their pain, anger, and frustration with Alcala. You may view more about the sentencing in the videos below. |

![]() Dating Game Killer: Rodney Alcala More than 100 photos have been released in the Rodney Alcala serial killer case. Now, numerous tips are pouring in as Huntington Beach Police try to track down potential victims. According to a new report by CNN, there have been tips on at least four people who have been determined to be dead or missing. View the pictures of Rodney Alcala’s possible victims here
Two people have come forward stating that they were minors when the photos were taken and that they are alive in well.
Huntington Beach Detectives continue to work through the tips and hope that they will be able to bring closure to families of missing loved ones.
Rodney Alcala was a photographic enthusiast who often used photography as a lure. Twelve year old Robin Samsoe was playing in a park with a friend when approached by Rodney Alcala. He took photos of the girls, then when Robin left for a ballet class, abducted, raped, and murdered her. He has been convicted of her murder three times.
Though the tips are coming in, police have yet to make an official declaration that any of the women or children in the photos is actual victims of Rodney Acala’s.
Due to the location where the photos were discovered (in a locker where Acala kept a pair of earrings worn by Robin Samsoe on the day of her disappearance), police fear that some of the photos were kept as a trophy by the convicted serial killer.

![]() Dating Game Killer: Rodney Alcala Rodney Alcala had been on the run for three years. He had been caught in the act of raping 8-year-old Tali S., and nearly killed her after beating the child with a metal pipe. He fled to New York and enrolled in NYU, taking classes and spent time under the tutelage of Roman Polanski. During his time in New York, a young woman was found strangled, raped, and murdered in her apartment. Rodney Alcala has been linked to the crime.
Rodney Alcala had been using the alias John Berger and began working in a summer camp in New Hampshire. Thanks to the quick thinking of detectives working the case, Rodney Alcala had been placed on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list. It was that decision that led to his 1971 arrest.

Two girls who attended the camp went to the Georges Mills, New Hampshire Post Office and saw the poster on the wall. They were shocked that their counselor bore a striking resemblance to the man pictured; the man wanted for the brutal rape of an eight year old little girl. They notified police and Rodney Alcala was arrested on August 12, 1971.
Why was Rodney Alcala ever allowed to rape and kill again?

| Rodney Alcala case: Escape to New York and Cornelia ‘Michael’ Crilley
![]() Dating Game Killer: Rodney Alcala Rodney Alcala escaped to New York after police found him in his apartment with 8-year-old Tali S., beaten, raped, and near death on the apartment floor. Using the alias John Berger, Alcala escaped to New York and soon became the suspect in another brutal attack: the rape and murder of Cornelia ‘Michael’ Crilley. Tali S., was attacked in 1968, Cornelia Crilley was murdered three years later.
On June 24, 1971 a young 23-year-old flight attendant was found raped and murdered in her apartment. She had been strangled to death with her own stockings. The victim’s name was Cornelia Michelle Crilley and she worked as a stewardess for Trans World Airlines. Cornelia had just moved from Queens to the Yorkville, Manhattan three- room apartment on the second floor of a five story building located at 427 East 83rd Street. Police were called to the scene when a close friend of Cornelia’s Leon Borstein, reported that he could not get in touch with her throughout the day. Police responded as a courtesy call and discovered the gruesome scene.
If Rodney Alcala abducted Tali s. today, there would have been an Amber Alert (photos)
There was no sign of forced entry and police theorized that the killer exited and locked the door using the victim’s key, leaving them to draw the conclusion that Cornelia knew her murderer.
![]() Cornelia Crilley family photo Cornelia had moved into the apartment on June 1, 1971 and though she had two roommates, they were away at the time of the murder. Detectives theorized that Cornelia may have utilized the help of someone to assist her with moving and that may explain how the murderer entered the apartment.
Cornelia Crilley was found partially clothed, had been raped, and the stockings were still wrapped tightly around her neck when she was discovered.
It was during this time that Rodney Alcala was attending NYU and studying film under Roman Polanski.
Reports state that there is saliva and bite mark evidence that was obtained from Cornelia Crilley’s body linking Alcala to her murder. Though detectives weren’t looking at the promising NYU film student and photographer with the alias ‘John Berger’ as a suspect in Cornelia’s case, he would soon be arrested for the rape and attempted murder of Tali S.
Please view the photos below. They were obtained from a storage locker after Rodney Alcala’s arrest and contained earrings belonging to one of his victims. Authorities suspect that the photos were part of Alcala’s ‘trophy collection’ and may contain images of other victims.

If Rodney Alcala abducted Tali s. today, there would have been an Amber Alert (photos)
In 1968, 25-year-old Rodney Alcala was a wanted fugitive and thanks to a concerned citizen, the little 8-year-old girl known as Tali S was saved.
Rodney Alcala was attending UCLA in 68. He had been discharged from the United States Army and had been given a diagnosis of anti social personality disorder. A witness saw Rodney Alcala lure the little girl into his car and drive away.
Thankfully, the witness followed Rodney Alcala back to his apartment and then notified the Los Angeles Police Department. Detectives arrived at the scene, approached the door and knocked. Alcala met them by the window and according to reports was not wearing a shirt. He told them he would let them in but then escaped through the back door.
When the officers entered the apartment, they found Talia raped and beaten on the floor.
Alcala left California and went to New York. Under the alias John Berger, New York police now believe that Rodney Alcala assaulted women there as well. In 1971, a New York woman was brutally raped and murdered. Her name was Cornelia ‘Michael’ Crilley.
